Is LinkedIn Premium worth it for freelancers?

Anna SheronovaUpdated

Short answer

For a freelancer or consultant, Premium Business helps if you will use InMail to reach prospects you are not connected to, the viewer list to see who looked after you posted, or the custom button on your profile. It does not find clients on its own, and the viewer list never names private-mode viewers. If referrals already fill your calendar, you can skip it.

This page is the solo-seller view of is LinkedIn Premium worth it. LinkedIn shows the current price for your plan and country on its Premium page, so this guide looks at what the plan includes and leaves the money to LinkedIn.

What Premium Business adds for someone selling services

What Premium Business adds for someone selling services, as of November 2026
FeatureWhat LinkedIn says it doesLimit to know
InMail15 credits a month to message people outside your network, one back when it is acceptedUnused credits build up to 45, the balance drops to zero on cancel
Who's viewed your profileFull viewer list for up to 365 days, with filters and a weekly trendPrivate-mode viewers are not named, even on Premium

Private browsingBrowse profiles in private mode and keep your own viewer listOthers see you as LinkedIn Member while you do
Search and warm introductionsLinkedIn describes unlimited search and warm introduction suggestionsLinkedIn's pages disagree on advanced search, so verify before you rely on it

Premium Career overlaps with much of this and adds job-search tools instead of business ones. Premium Career vs Business shows the differences row by row.

Using the viewer list as a lead signal

Premium shows the full list of people who viewed your profile for up to 365 days, with filters for date range, company and industry, and a weekly trend graph. A free account sees only the three most recent viewers from the last 90 days (LinkedIn Help, as of November 2026).

For someone selling services, the list gives you ideas for follow-up. A person from a company you want to work with who looked after you posted is a reason to write a short note about the post. A name that appears more than once is worth a second look. These are prompts, not proof of interest, and a view is not a request for a call.

Private-mode viewers stay private. LinkedIn says you cannot see their names even with a Premium account (LinkedIn Help). Can LinkedIn Premium see anonymous viewers explains what you do get instead.

InMail for prospects

Premium Business comes with 15 InMail credits a month, and unused credits build up to a maximum of 45 (LinkedIn Help). You get a credit back when the recipient accepts your InMail (LinkedIn Help). The balance drops to zero when the subscription is canceled.

Fifteen a month is about three a week. If you write to fewer prospects than that, the credits go unused, and if you write to more, the allowance is the limit.

Is LinkedIn Premium for small business worth it?

LinkedIn describes Business as a plan to get detailed business insights and expand your business, and lists a custom button, business insights such as company growth trends and hiring activity, and warm introduction suggestions on its marketing page (LinkedIn Premium Business). How much of that matters depends on what you sell.

If you are a team of one to a handful and your customers are other businesses, the business insights and the custom button on your profile are the features built for you. LinkedIn says the button appears on your profile, posts, messages and search. If your customers are consumers, the viewer list and InMail matter more than the insights.

Premium for consultants and coaches

Consultants

If you sell expert services to companies, the case is InMail and the viewer list. You reach a decision maker who does not know you, and you see which companies looked at you after a post. If most of your work comes from past clients, neither adds much.

Coaches

If you sell to individuals, your results depend more on visible posts and a clear profile than on any Premium feature. The viewer list is the one worth thinking about, because it shows who is reading you.

When it is not worth it

Skip it when you already get clients from referrals, when your posts bring inbound messages, or when you want the viewer list for curiosity only. LinkedIn also has features its marketing pages describe differently from its Help pages, such as advanced search, so confirm a feature on your own account before buying for it.

A separate plan, Sales Navigator, exists for teams that prospect all day. LinkedIn lists Sales Navigator Core with 50 InMail credits a month. The comparison belongs in "LinkedIn Premium vs Sales Navigator", which is a different question from this one.

Follow people who keep viewing you

A viewer list tells you someone looked. It does not remind you to write. The signal comes from the viewers LinkedIn lists for you. LinkedAsk is a Chrome extension that keeps one card per person you add, with the visits, invites, reactions and messages it saw between you, and a "They viewed you" signal when someone looked at your profile recently. You decide whom to write to and what to say.
