Can ChatGPT access LinkedIn? What it can read

Anna SheronovaUpdated

Short answer

ChatGPT gets LinkedIn data in four ways, and each one sees a different slice. LinkedIn's own app inside ChatGPT looks up other professionals. A profile PDF or your data export gives it whatever the file holds. A web search reaches public profiles. A connector to a record of your activity lets it answer about the profiles you opened and the people who viewed you. Claude has the same routes except LinkedIn's app, as of October 2026.

LinkedIn's app covers other people. For your own activity you need a file or a connector, and what a LinkedIn MCP server is explains connectors if the word is new to you.

LinkedIn's own app in ChatGPT

OpenAI's page for the LinkedIn app names LinkedIn as the developer and describes a people lookup: title, company, location and follower count, with a tap through to the full profile. Its sample prompts prepare you for an event, with briefs on named attendees or on a group of speakers.

Nothing on the page mentions your own activity on LinkedIn. OpenAI says availability "depends on the plugin, your plan, and workspace settings", so open the app list in your own ChatGPT to check.

Files you upload: a profile PDF or your export

LinkedIn lets you save a profile as a PDF, your own or another member's. Open the profile, click More (or Resources) and choose Save to PDF, as LinkedIn's help page describes. Upload it and ChatGPT or Claude can rewrite your headline from it or prepare you for a call.

Your data archive is a zip of CSV files. Connections.csv has seven columns: First Name, Last Name, URL, Email Address, Company, Position and Connected On. Most email cells are blank, and some rows hold only a date. messages.csv holds your conversations with a date on each message. ChatGPT reads CSV files and PDFs in data analysis, and Claude lists CSV among the file types it works with. Analyze LinkedIn connections with ChatGPT works through a sample Connections.csv.

The archive has no file for who viewed you or for the profiles you opened, as the export guide shows file by file. Each file shows your account as it was on the day you downloaded it.

Web search: public profiles only

A web search reaches what LinkedIn shows to search tools. That is the public profile, which LinkedIn calls a simplified version of the full one. Each member chooses which sections appear there, or turns the public profile off. Connections and activity are not part of it.

A connector to a record of your own activity

LinkedIn keeps no list of the profiles you open. To answer "whose profile did I open twice this week?", an assistant needs something that wrote those visits down as you browsed.

LinkedAsk is a Chrome extension that keeps that record of your own LinkedIn activity: profiles you visited, people who viewed you, invites you sent, reactions, your posts with their numbers, and people you saved with notes. You add it to your assistant as a connector with one server address and sign in with your LinkedAsk account. Then a question like "who viewed my profile this month that I never invited?" gets its answer from that record. With your permission, the assistant can also save people and add notes. Saving is a write, and OpenAI gives Pro read and fetch permissions only, so on Pro you get answers without the saving.

Claude accepts it on every plan, with one custom connector on Free. In ChatGPT, OpenAI lists full MCP for Business and Enterprise/Edu and read-only connections for Pro, as of October 2026. Plus and Free are not on that list. Cursor takes it too.

ChatGPT and Claude compared

  • LinkedIn's app is in ChatGPT. LinkedIn has not published a connector for Claude, as of October 2026.
  • Adding your own connector. Anthropic lists custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, one on Free. On Team, only Owners and Primary Owners add them. On Enterprise, so can people whose custom role includes Manage access to Libraries. OpenAI lists full MCP for Business and Enterprise/Edu and read-only connections for Pro. In a Business workspace, admins and owners add them.

Both read PDFs and CSV files you upload. The steps are in connect Claude to LinkedIn and connect ChatGPT to LinkedIn.

Gaps in every route

  • Profiles you opened before anything recorded them. LinkedIn keeps no such list, so there is nothing to give an assistant.
  • LinkedIn's full viewers list. The export leaves it out. LinkedIn's viewers page shows a free account only its three most recent viewers from the last 90 days, according to LinkedIn Help.

Pick by situation

  • Brief on one person before a meeting: LinkedIn's app in ChatGPT, or their profile PDF in Claude.
  • Rewrite your own headline: your own profile PDF.
  • Sort your network by company or year: upload Connections.csv. For charts, see LinkedIn network analysis with AI.
  • Follow your own activity week after week: a connector to a record you keep.

ChatGPT and LinkedIn: questions

Can ChatGPT access my LinkedIn account?

ChatGPT cannot sign in to your LinkedIn account. It reaches LinkedIn through LinkedIn's own app, which looks up other professionals, or through data you give it: an export you upload, or a connector to a record of your activity that LinkedAsk keeps.

Does Claude connect to LinkedIn?

Through files and custom connectors. Claude reads a profile PDF or an export CSV you upload, and any remote MCP server you add as a custom connector. Anthropic lists custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with one connector on Free. LinkedIn has not published a Claude connector, as of October 2026.

Can ChatGPT see who viewed my LinkedIn profile?

Only through a record you keep. LinkedIn's data export leaves the viewers list out. A connector to LinkedAsk can answer from the viewers it recorded since you installed it.

Which AI is best for LinkedIn?

It depends on the job. For a brief on one person, ChatGPT with LinkedIn's app. For questions about your own network and activity, the assistant you can add a connector to. That is Claude on any plan, with one connector on Free, or ChatGPT on Business and Enterprise/Edu, with read-only connections on Pro, as of October 2026.

Can ChatGPT read a LinkedIn profile PDF?

Yes. Open the profile, click More or Resources, choose Save to PDF and upload the file. ChatGPT and Claude both read PDFs.

Ask your AI about your own LinkedIn.

Install the extension, then add LinkedAsk to Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT on a plan that allows custom MCP servers. Ask which profiles you opened and who looked back.
